Preamble

Welcome to the final phase of your learning journey before you embark on working for your thesis. As we mentioned at the beginning of the programme, NUMS-MHPE aims to produce inspiring and aspiring leaders and competent clinicians who are also teachers, mentors, reflectors, researchers, scholars, trainers, evaluators and above all humane, humanistic, empathetic, and ethical professionals with a well-developed professional identity (PI). Challenges faced by health professionals and health professionals’ educationists are multifaceted. Health Professional leaders need to be able to identify issues and challenges faced in local and global context. These challenges are wide ranging, from facing organizational and cultural issues to balancing competing agendas while managing personal issues and work life.

‘Professional identity formation ‘(PIF), or helping you develop your professional identities not only as professional but also as a medical educationist, is one of the core outcomes of this Master’s programme which has been embedded throughout the course and we will continue it during this semester as well. Helping educationists develop effective teaching practices goes a long way in bolstering their confidence and helps them to develop their PI. The cohort, being in the final stages of MHPE, is expected to demonstrate the imparted skills and knowledge with proper attitude of an educationist.

To help achieve our mutual goal and outcomes, this semester will address two parallel running courses; Opportunities and Challenges in Contemporary Medical Education (OCM)
and Leadership in Education (LE), and internship to enable you to apply concepts you learned all the way. During the face to face sessions you will get a chance to learn from national and international experts who are leaders in Medical Education.

Even though your Master’s Program has put you on a roller coaster ride, we hope you will enjoy the experience.

Happy learning
